What stays private,
and what doesn't.
Your work content stays on your device, and your AI requests go straight from your computer to the AI you choose.
Here are the boundaries, in plain terms.
Version v1.0, last updated October 26, 2026.
01 / Who we are
Yesterly is operated by Shanghai Jiyue Information Technology Co., Ltd. ("we" or "us"). We are the controller of the personal information described in this policy, which applies to the Yesterly website, the desktop app, and our cloud account and subscription services. By using Yesterly, you confirm that you understand this policy and agree to our Terms of Service. Our contact details are in section 12.
02 / What stays on your device?
Captured screenshots, the summaries recognized from them, your timeline, recap sources, recap text and all revisions are stored on your device. The Yesterly cloud offers no storage or cloud sync for this work content.
You can view and edit entries in the app, copy recaps, or export TXT and Markdown files. You can also export an encrypted backup. Keeping your device and backups safe is up to you, and moving to a new device won't bring your work content along automatically.
Yesterly is built for you, not your employer. It has no team dashboard or manager view, and your timeline never reaches Yesterly's servers. If your computer is managed by your workplace, check its policies before you install anything.
03 / What goes to the AI provider you choose?
For capture and for direct recap output, the app sends requests to the model service you selected. Yesterly's servers don't proxy, relay or temporarily store them.
- Cloud capture model: the captured screen and your capture prompt go directly to the model service you selected.
- Direct recap output: the text material for the period you picked, plus your instructions, goes to the recap model you configured.
- DeepSeek (web): if you choose this option, the prepared recap attachment and prompt are handed to the DeepSeek web page.
How a third-party service keeps or uses this content depends on its own rules and your account settings there. Yesterly can't promise that other providers never retain your content or never use it for training. To see which models are involved, check the model settings in the app and section 05 of the Terms of Service.
04 / What about local models?
When both capture and recaps use compatible models running on your own machine, your work content can be recognized and written up locally, without being sent to any external model service. Capture needs a local model with vision support that passes the connection test in the app.
Processing locally doesn't make the whole app work offline: logging in, device authorization and plan checks still connect to Yesterly's servers.
05 / What information do we collect, and why?
We only process the information we need to provide the following services:
- Account information: your email address, securely stored password credentials, login sessions and device authorization records. We use them to sign you up and log you in, recognize your devices and keep your account secure.
- Plan and order information: your plan, order numbers, amounts, payment status and refund records. We use them to grant your plan, reconcile payments and provide after-sales support. Sensitive payment details, such as your bank card or WeChat account, are handled by the payment provider. We don't store them.
- Usage metrics: when you use the built-in model, the app reports call status, duration, number and size of images, text length and token counts. We use them to count your allowance, run the service and troubleshoot problems. They never include screenshots, entry summaries or recap text.
- Support information: the contact details and problem description you choose to give us.
- Log information: the access and error logs needed to run the service, such as IP address, request time, and device or browser type.
We process this information to perform our contract with you, to keep the service secure, and, where applicable, with your consent. We don't use your personal information for purposes unrelated to those above.
06 / Cookies
The website only uses the session cookies it needs to keep you logged in. It doesn't use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. You can clear cookies in your browser, but you may need to log in again.
07 / Sharing, processors and disclosure
We don't sell your personal information. We share it only in these cases:
- Payment provider: to complete payments, reconciliation and refunds (currently WeChat Pay);
- Infrastructure and email providers: for necessary steps such as hosting our servers and sending verification emails;
- The model services you choose: sent directly from the app, as described in section 03;
- Legal requirements: when competent authorities lawfully require it, or to protect the lawful rights and interests of us, our users or the public;
- Change of ownership: in a merger, acquisition or similar event, the successor will remain bound by this policy.
08 / Retention and security
We keep account and plan information for as long as your account exists. After you delete your account, we delete or anonymize it, except for order and financial records the law requires us to keep, which we keep for the period the law requires. We keep usage metrics and operational logs only as long as reasonably needed for their purposes. Data on your device is yours to manage: uninstalling the app or deleting the files removes it.
We store password credentials in protected form, use encrypted connections for data in transit, and limit internal access with access controls and audit logs. If a security incident could harm your rights and interests, we will notify you promptly and take remedial measures. No system is perfectly secure, so keep your account and devices safe as well.
09 / Your rights
You can access, correct and delete your personal information, withdraw your consent, delete your account, and request a copy of your personal information. You can view your account and plan information under My plan. For other requests, contact us as described in section 12. We will handle your request within 15 business days, and we may need to verify your identity first.
Withdrawing consent or deleting information doesn't affect processing that was lawfully carried out before, or records the law requires us to keep.
10 / Minors
The service is intended for people aged 18 and over. We don't knowingly collect information from minors, and if we find we have collected it by mistake, we delete it as soon as possible. If you're a parent or guardian and find that a minor has used the service, contact us.
11 / Policy changes and third-party links
When this policy changes, we update the version and date on this page. For material changes, we post a notice on the website or in the app at least 14 days before they take effect. Our website may link to third-party sites. Their data practices are their own responsibility, and we recommend reading their privacy policies.
